Micron srl

The company

Micron Srl is based in Soncino in the province of Cremona, in the heart of northern Italy. With annual sales of more than €11 million, 600 active customers and a staff of 70 people, Micron is Italy's largest Italian electroless nickel plating company for precision machined components and one of the top 10 in Europe. Since its foundation in 1985, Micron has specialized in the application of electroless nickel plating processes to precision mechanics.

Identified by the NIPLATE® registered trademark, its exclusive proprietary electroless nickel plating process has been systematically developed in-house, starting from the raw materials. Thanks to continuous R&D work and customer feedback, the Niplate process is constantly being improved and optimized. Our extensive knowledge of treatments and profound expertise in process chemistry allows us to deliver a high-quality, consistent coating featuring maximum reliability.

Micron has grown steadily over the years, distinguishing itself for its quality services and treatments, becoming Italy's leading supplier of electroless nickel plating for precision mechanical components. With over 30 years of experience, Micron assists its customers in product development, becoming an invaluable partner. The company serves machining shops as well as major Italian and European companies in the automotive, pneumatic, hydraulic, textile, medical, cycling, machine design, maritime, and aviation sectors.

Micron Srl is equipped with a full laboratory for surface analysis, including a scanning electron microscope with EDX detector for element analysis, Vickers microhardness testers, optical microscopes, a salt spray chamber, and a Taber Abraser. The laboratory is used for routine testing, periodic validation of the group's treatments, research and development for new treatments, and failure analysis to assist customers.

Thanks to its multiple treatment plants, Micron provides fast and flexible service and is able to meet high production volumes as well as small production batches, samples, and pre-production quantities.

The company also employs an exclusive PEO (Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation) magnesium anodizing treatment called OX-UHA, which delivers excellent hardness and corrosion resistance properties.

Micron's product quality and extensive process knowledge have been the fundamental drive behind the company's mission, ISO 9001-certified since 1998. In 2022, the company's quality management system achieved IATF 16949 certification for the automotive sector.

The NIPLATE® trademark

To guarantee the quality of our coatings, we created the NIPLATE® trademark, an EU-registered trademark owned by Micron srl that identifies the coatings we supply. The trademark's exclusive nature is a well-recognized signal to our customers, guaranteeing products and processes of the highest quality.

Setting customer satisfaction and coating quality as its primary goals, the Micron-Durox group has made significant investments in creating a sophisticated laboratory that provides complex and in-depth analyses of surface coatings. The lab conducts control and validation testing on the workpieces produced, as well as targeted research and development for coating implementation. We actively collaborate with customers by analyzing and testing their components, as well as conducting failure analysis by investigating materials, processing, and treatments to find the most suitable solution for their specific needs.

We conduct the following surface analyses and chemical and tribological tests:

  • Coating thickness measurement via microscopical examination | ISO 1463
  • Coating thickness measurement via eddy-current method | ISO 2360
  • Vickers microhardness tests | ISO 4516
  • Surface roughness measurement | ISO 4288
  • Adhesion analysis | ISO 2819
  • Salt spray corrosion resistance test | ISO 9227 – ISO 10289 – ASTM B117
  • Taber Abraser wear resistance measurement | ISO 10074 B.3
  • Coating porosity analysis | ASTM B733 – FERROXYL TEST
  • Phosphorus content analysis via EDS spectroscopy
  • SEM (scanning electron microscope) analysis
  • Metal alloy elemental composition analysis via EDS spectroscopy
